Jobs in Detail - Film Editor

a Film Editor is the final person the production goes through in the production side of things. They are in charge of cutting the film together and use their own initiative and are often assisted by the director. The director will work closely with the editor and sometimes tell the editor where to put specific parts and how to edit specific Sequences. Being an Editor requires Technical and at times Creative Finesse, a lot of the time a film editor will have specific guidelines on how to cut the scenes together but can often use their own creative input and suggest another way.  There are computers designed specifally just for editing, this is because an entire film can take up a lot of space on a computer and not to mention that there is often many many attempts of scenes to sort through and extra bits that may not be added to the final film. This software is in essence the same as other video editing software such as sony vegas or Adobe Premier. They all use the same tools to a degree altough a proffessional film company will have advanced software and computers designed to deal with a large amount of data from the film,The Editor of a film must have a good insight to the film itself. Whilst having a technical prowess a lot of editors have specialised degrees in things such as Script editing with a good grasp of analysis.
